Following the WAM group that developed and established wave models as one component of Earth System modelling, the WISE group has been meeting annually to promote scientific exchanges that cover all aspects of wind-generated waves. First used for marine weather forecasts, numerical wave models are used in a wide variety of contexts, including coastal engineering, climate projections and ocean remote sensing. The complexity of the air-sea interface presents a number of challenges from the observation, analysis and understanding of physical process to their parameterization in practical models.
